From Zintl to Wade: Ba3LiGa5 ‒ a structure pattern with pyramidal cluster chains –[Ga5]n‒
Investigation of the correlation between the electronegativity difference and valence electron concentration in intermetallic gallides lead to the discovery of the new compound Ba3LiGa5 (space group Immm, a = 6.2720(2) Å, b = 6.5872(2) Å, c = 12.6878(8) Å). A combination of quantum chemical bonding analysis with NMR study, and measurements of the physical properties revealed the gallium substructure to be formed of chains built of the interconnected pyramidal [Ga5] clusters. Compatibility of a Gaseous Dielectric with Al, Ag, and Cu and Gas‐Phase Synthesis of a New N‐Acylamidine Copper Complex
A new N ‐acylamidine copper complex was observed when 2‐(trifluoromethyl)‐2,3,3,3‐tetrafluoropropane nitrile, a new insulating gas for gas‐insulated equipment, was brought in contact with copper in the presence of oxygen and small amounts of water. The new complex offers interesting properties; however, in gas‐insulated high voltage equipment such complex formation by reaction of the insulating gas should be avoided. Herein we describe the compatibility of 2‐(trifluoromethyl)‐2,3,3,3‐tetrafluoropropane...

Impact of H2 and Consecutive H2O2 Exposures on the Oxidative Dissolution of (U1–xGdx)O2 Pellets Under Deep Repository Conditions for Spent Nuclear Fuel
With increasing H2O2 exposure the dissolution yield of Gd‐doped UO2 decreases. This indicates a change in the redox reactivity of Gd‐doped UO2 upon the exposure to H2O2. An inhibiting effect of H2 on the oxidative dissolution of Gd‐doped UO2 could not be observed. The reactivity of H2O2 towards (U1–x Gd x)O2 (x = 0.03, 0.045, 0.08) in the presence of H2 was studied experimentally to assess the effect of H2 on oxidative dissolution of Gd‐doped UO2 under deep repository conditions for...

Results show that the CA/M ratio used affects the texture and the reducibility of the samples by modifying specific surface area and crystallite size. The aim of this work is to study the effect of the citric acid to metal molar ratio (CA/M) used in the citrate synthesis route on the structural, morphological and redox properties...

Synthesis, Structure and Reactivities of Pentacoordinated Phosphorus–Boron Bonded Compounds
Pentacoordinated phosphorus–tetracoordinated boron bonded compounds were isolated. Upon hydride abstraction of a phosphoranyl‐trihydroborate, a phosphoranyl‐borane intermediate could undergo a rearrangement reaction to give a bicyclic compound or it could act as a mono‐hydroboration reagent. A phosphoranyl‐triarylborate was stable to acids and bases due to the large bulk around the long P–B bond. Synthesis, Structural Characterization and Chemical Bonding of Sr7Li6Sn12 and its Quaternary Derivatives with Eu and Alkaline Earth Metal (Mg, Ca, Ba) Substitutions. A Tale of Seven Li‐Containing Stannides and Two Complex Crystal Structures
The orthorhombic Sr7Li6Sn12 crystal shows high degree of occupational disordering between Li and Sn atoms. This disorder is governed by the need for the structure to achieve optimum number of valence electrons. Upon partial substitution of Sr with Ca atoms, the symmetry distorts to monoclinic and the phase (Ca,Sr)7Li6Sn12 is realized. Therein, local distortion due to Ca and Sr atoms being mixed leads to ordering between Li and Sn atoms. In this paper, we discuss the synthesis and the structural...

Ligand Field Theory for Planar Complexes: First Principles Validation of the Critical Effects of Coordination Voids
