In a 15-year follow-up study based on the presence and numbers of circulating tumor cells and tumor DNA before, immediately after, and at defined points after core-needle and fine-needle biopsy procedures, a strong case is made for revisiting and potentially changing current practice to include fine-needle biopsy as the initial biopsy procedure in patients with breast masses.
