Abstract
Acute adrenal crisis is a life-threatening medical emergency requiring immediate recognition and treatment. Among individuals with primary adrenal insufficiency it has a frequency of 6–8 per 100 patient-years1. Unfortunately, delays in diagnosis and management of acute adrenal crisis are commonplace – even in patients with documented steroid-dependency – constituting an avoidable source of patient harm.
