Visualizing Formation of Intermetallic PdZn in a Palladium/Zinc Oxide Catalyst: Interfacial Fertilization by PdHx

Leaping the dragon gate: Nanoscale phase transitions occur for a ZnO‐supported PdZn intermetallic under realistic acetylene hydrogenation conditions. In their Communication (DOI: 10.1002/anie.201812292), D. S. Su et al. observe the evolution of a PdH_x intermediary species at the interface between PdH_x and a ZnO support using in situ X‐ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. According to Chinese legend, Yulong carp will transform into dragons if they climb a waterfall.
