[Correspondence] Hydration and contrast-induced kidney injury

Estelle Nijssen and colleagues1 found that in patients at high risk for contrast-induced nephropathy who had an elective procedure with contrast medium, contrast-induced nephropathy occurred at similar rates whether the patients were treated before with intravenous saline or not. How can this finding be reconciled with that of previous studies, which showed the benefit of volume expansion with intravenous fluids?
