Abstract 18 Increased Emergency Department Utilization Following Colonoscopy in the Elderly

The United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends screening for colorectal cancer in adults between 50 and 75 years of age. After age 75, the decision to pursue colonoscopy is patient-specific, and the age at which to stop screening or surveillance colonoscopy is not well established. Unplanned hospital visits within 7 days of colonoscopy is a new quality metric for colonoscopy. The incidence and etiology of unplanned hospital use after colonoscopy in the elderly is not well understood. (Source: Gastroenterology)
