We thank Drs Berlin, Steinbacher, and Tuggle for their thoughtful letter in response to our article1 and would like to review a number of the points that they raise. First of all, we acknowledge, as we did in the article, that our study population does not represent the breadth of patients undergoing orthognathic surgical (OGS) procedures and that there are interesting alternative methods that can be used to examine relations between procedure volume and patient outcomes (including inpatient length of stay and index hospital costs).
