Effectiveness, Safety, and Predictors of Response to Botulinum Toxin Type A in Refractory Masticatory Myalgia: A Retrospective Study

Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are defined as a subgroup of craniofacial musculoskeletal and neuromuscular disorders. They are broadly sub-divided into temporomandibular joint disorders and masticatory muscle disorders. Common manifestations of masticatory muscle disorders in TMD consist of pain, persistent, recurring, or chronic in nature, which is often associated with limitation of range of mandibular motion. Masticatory muscle pain disorders respond well to conservative therapy. However, in some patients the pain may become refractory [1].
