Dr. Michelle Voss, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Iowa. Dr. Voss is the Director of the Health, Brain, & Cognition Lab. Their Lab is interested in understanding how to maximize the brain's capacity for adaptive plasticity across the lifespan. This includes examining mechanisms associated with declines in plasticity and cognitive function associated with aging, injury, or disease, and determining how they may intervene for improved quality of life. To study plasticity, they examine how people learn new skills and abilities, and the lifestyle factors that affect learning and transfer of learning to untrained skills and abilities. They are particularly interested in how physical exercise protects the brain from age-related declines in learning and memory.
