A Method to Assign Age at Thelarche in Girls with Inconsistent or Missing Maturation Staging

Longitudinal cohort studies of pubertal maturation are the preferred design but present challenges in data analysis of pubertal events when missed observations or apparent pubertal regression occur. Many past studies have used the mid-point of the interval encompassing the missed observations, which assumes equal probability of the event across the interval. Some have dropped subjects who experienced maturation prior to or after the period of observation, but these subjects may be very informative for assessing the relationship between the risk factor and age at the pubertal event.
