We read the important investigation by Ahmed and colleagues with great interest [1]. This study utilized the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) population database to evaluate outcomes and patterns of care regarding combinations of surgery and/or radiation therapy (RT) for stage I small cell lung cancer (SCLC). The authors illustrate sociodemographic differences in patients likely to undergo surgery, and they also identify an association of patients undergoing surgery achieving improved outcomes over RT alone.
