Delaying implant based mammary reconstruction after radiotherapy does not decrease capsular contracture: an in vitro study

We read with great interest the comment of Lo Toro et al. about our in vitro study on radiotherapy and capsular contracture [1]. The authors highlighted two points; first, the irradiation of implants leads to nanostructural modifications which includes the release of low-molecular weight fragment which suggests a process of irradiation-induced degradation resulting in main chain scission; and second, they presented a clinical path which can be used in preventing capsular contracture.
