Aggregation of Connecticut Towns for Precise Population Health Indicator Assessment

Estimates of population health indicators for small geographic areas are important for public health programs targeting local populations; however, such small area estimates often have poor precision. One approach to address such imprecision is to aggregate small areas into larger regions to achieve minimal population sizes needed to achieve target levels of precision while maintaining optimal homogeneity of smaller areas, as well as geographic contiguity. We sought to develop a general framework for such aggregation using sociodemographic data for the 169 towns in Connecticut.
