Gilead to pop up to $567 million on East Bay 'smart cell' startup

Launched little more than a year ago to produce cancer-fighting cell therapies just outside a tumor cell's door, an Emeryville company will be bought by biotech powerhouse Gilead Sciences Inc. for up to $567 million.
