Low-grade systemic inflammation: a partial mediator of the relationship between diabetes and lung function

An association between diabetes mellitus and decreased lung function has been consistently found, but pathophysiological mechanisms explaining this association remain unclear. Among other hypothesis, low-grade inflammation may be involved. We estimated that high sensitivity-C-reactive protein could explain a small part this this association (13% [3.7; 39.4] of the association mediated by high sensitivity-C-reactive protein).
