Evaluation of KGF, EGF, VEGF, bcl-2, IL-6 and ki67 expression in oral epithelium adjacent to bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis and florid osseous dysplasia: a comparative immunohistochemical study

Bisphosphonates are associated with impairment of epithelial proliferation and it is suggested that this feature can play a role in the pathogenesis of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (ON). Objective: to compare the expression of proliferative markers and apoptosis-associated proteins in the oral mucosa adjacent to bone sequestrum associated with ON and florid osseous dysplasia (OD). Study design: oral mucosal samples derived from surgical procedures performed for treatment of ON and OD (10 cases each) were retrieved.
